why schools are prisons

January 12, 2012

i hated school. i was a terrible student and i loathed the idea that i was being measured against my peers by how quickly i could memorize the content being presented.

i found this video very profound. i never want to go back to school – besides with all of the information on the internet, i shouldn’t have to.

Interesting thoughts. However, speaking as a parent, I have the choice of how to school my child. I am not required by law to send my child to a certain school, I can choose to home school them, send them to a private/charter School of my choice. It’s my choice to put my child in the environment that I feel is best for giving them the opportunities to become who they want to be.

If I decide to send my child to a public school, as a parent, it would be my responsibility to ensure that my child is educated in the way that I feel reflects my views.

I must be involved.

So I would say that the authors views are a bit misguided and that the true out come of a child is impacted more but the support and guidance that he/she receives at home. But it did get me thinking.
