I’m with you two. I agree with Beck about the government and major networks working together would be a huge problem (*shudders*), but he kind of chose the wrong topic to rant about. He seriously sounded like volunteering your time was the worst thing you could do for this country. Seriously, dude?

The sad truth is that a ton of people in this country are becoming more and more lazy and selfish with their time and money, and a campaign like the one described in the video could only do good in my eyes. Unfortunately, tens of thousands who watched that are going to boycott volunteerism because they think Beck told them it’s part of Obama’s liberal agenda.

Does it annoy me when TV shows incorporate a “group message” into their shows no matter how much I support the cause (ie Green week)? YES! Treating the earth well and using resources wisely is very important to me, but I just think it’s cheesy when they throw it into the show so obviously.

Do I think the media acts as Obama’s puppets? Yes. But at least in this case they’re going along with something that is fully bipartisan.

The thing that I like about Beck (and Limbaugh) is that they are okay with saying what they think regardless of what is popular opinion. It’s MUCH more politically correct to be liberal and these guys just don’t care. I don’t think it’s reasonable for people to disparage these guys for speaking their mind while applauding liberals who do. “Kudos to you! You’re doing and saying what’s popular today!”

In this case though, Beck, throw me a bone! Pick something that’s a PROBLEM to gripe about. Volunteering is a wonderful thing and yeah, some people do need an incentive. That may be wrong, but as long as help is being given, does it matter? Chances are that a free day at Disneyland will get them going, but who knows? They may actually find it REWARDING and continue.
