trade day hath cometh…

February 19, 2009

…a day i would have never known or cared about until this year. as many portlanders know, channing frye is portland’s favorite player but also portland’s least played player. which if you saw his numbers from last year it makes no sense. didn’t the dude get like a dozen double doubles? is that even a phrase? please refrain from correcting me if i am wrong.

Channing Traded

so today apparently we are going to find out his fate. i am biased and i want him to stay so we can still hang out and do nerd things but in reality i just want the dude to play basketball and be happy. i could care less who for. either way if he gets a raise i requested a steak. nothing more.

he told me he would call me as soon as he knows. so if he gives me permission i will post the news right away. even though the world will probably find out before he does.

hell, i am nervous for him. i talked with him last night about it and he is cool as ice – as usual. it is weird, he looks like lamarcus in the picture above which i am sure he would love to hear.

as of over an hour after the trade line, your boy is safe… for now. i would like to know why mcmillan is not playing him more. how is he supposed to get better with his cheeks glued to the bench?

yeah, i just chatted with him and he is staying. hooray! i am learning how all this bullshit works but it could be a good thing for channing. he just needs to get some minutes.

so everyone call the coach and passive aggressively threaten him. I.e. “I wish someone would push you off a bridge! just kidding… but seriously… i mean not!” – uh.

It’s good that he’s cool with whatever. I certainly couldn’t live that way… then again, I don’t get paid for what I do. ;)

Re: Channing’s likeness to LaMarcus.

Asked him during a community relations event what most fans ask him. His response?

“They usually ask me ‘Are you LaMarcus Aldridge?’”

I love Channing and wish he played more. I’m very happy he’s still a Blazer, I was sweatin’ that one out, too.

He has an opportunity with Oden out for who knows how long. As long as Oden is not playing, Channing will be in the rotation. Whenever Przybilla goes to the bench and they move LaMarcus to the center, Channing will come in as the PF. When Oden is playing, either him or Joel are in the game at almost all times, and they usually give Outlaw the backup PF minutes because he creates matchup problems for the other team with his versatility.

The problem for Channing (and Nate McMillan) is finding minutes for all these talented players on this team. He’s got talent, but at this time he’s the one left out of the rotation. This could change next season if we make a move or two, though. Whatever happens, I wish him the best and he’s always going to be one of my favorite Blazers.
