i am audi hits 1 million page views

every few months we set some new personal goals for i am audi. they usually touch on traffic, content changes and throughput, design changes, etc. well one of our goals was to average over a million page views a year and today we officially have tipped over.

once we launch the new and improved models section and the store we expect this number to grow substantially.

here is the first sneak peek of the store that will be launching in the next couple weeks.

i figured out how to record my screen so i let it roll for a few hours yesterday while i worked on i am audi. i imported the video into imovie, sped it up and added some music. jenga!

i had over 4 hours recorded. this video represents about 1 hour. now that i know how to do this i am going to post more of these.

i won a web visionary award

man. it feels so good to post this.

last night at the web visionary awards i won the hipsters (people’s) choice award for mr. diggles dot com. this is something i have wanted for some time and it is humbling to know that people like my work. especially when going up against talent like struck axiom, second story, roambi and substance.

i love my robot. not like like. love.

last year i got damn close to winning the peoples choice award for i am audi but no dice. this video shows that people wanted it. god knows i did.

thank you to everyone that came out to support me and everyone who gave me space to work. i know i am a bit of a workaholic but that has since changed.

i’ll be back next year mother fuckers.

50k page views on i am audi

today we breached our goal of getting to 50k page views on iamaudi.com which was one of our original goals. the recent version 3 redesign of the home page is what made it happen. we doubled our page views within 6 weeks. effective indeed.

we are powering our analytics using webtrends which is something we surely couldn’t afford unless i worked for the company. using our open api we are caching the sites metrics on the home page every 24 hours. we could tune the bitch to be closer to realtime but that would bog things down like a mofo. 24 hours is suffice.

so what’s the value you ask? we don’t know and we don’t really care. we are setting arbitrary goals and aiming for them just to see how far we can take this. and i will tell you what – we are far from tired and far from bored.

congrats scott. you are the man making things happen. don’t kill yourself on your new bike.

next goal: 100k/mo by the end of the year. we can do it. tell your friends. hide your kids. hide your wife.

web visionary awards round two

i have been selected as a finalist for the second year running at the web visionary awards. last year i was a finalist for i am audi but didn’t make the cut – which actually didn’t bum me out too bad since i was just pumped to be a finalist up against some large web agencies… and i am audi is fucking amazing.

this year i was able to get two sites in as finalists.

mr. diggles dot com is a finalist in the typography category.

webtrends agency dot com is a finalist in the form style category. shout out to switchyard creative for their handy code work.

i am very honored as usual. being up here with some of these companies and agencies is dope show.

if you are in portland and you want to come to the awards show it’s at the fez ballroom at 7pm on may 26th. it’s free to get in and there will be an abundance of nerds there. including me.

you need to get off facebook

we are watering down the relationships that matter to us and giving power to the relationships that don’t. my favorite part of this video is where it says you don’t have 852 friends… you have about 4… and that’s good – because this is very true.

i continue to avoid participating on facebook and people continue to hate on me for not accepting their friend request. i can honestly say that i don’t feel left out or as if i am missing out on something. i no longer have a personal email address either. this is all part of a decommissioning plan for me to eventually get off the internet.

the irony of all this is that i make a living buy helping agencies leverage their brands social presence to realize measurable return on their campaign efforts and ad spend. i don’t need to spend 7 hours a day participating in facebook to understand how it works. it’s not about understanding technology capabilities and constraints – it’s about understanding people and what we strive for on a spiritual and carnal level. despite the social connectivity of the web, people haven’t changed. look at las vegas – that shit will always be the same. they know what people want.

i don’t want to say that facebook is good for nothing. there are plenty of good things that come from it. my concern is that people are getting lost in a digital world that is ultimately effecting how they maintain and build relationships in the real world. the constraints of self expression and social pressure will limit your mind set of possibility. but in the end i guess that is everything – a world of predefined borders for us to stay within.

you can break free. but only if you want to.

if we are frogs, then the water we are sitting in just got a whole lot hotter. it doesn’t take much attention to notice that the police state is unfolding rapidly. the recent burst in department of homeland security seizing websites is another gear in the machine. i wanted to showcase the image above that is being slapped on sites that have officially been shut down.

saw this on twitter today. someone said “go to bing and type in ‘how do i get’ and see what comes up first – comedy.

i actually like bing even though i don’t really use it that much. i am institutionalized to google. i think it is funny that microsoft is bribing people to use their search engine – read the story here.

in other news: it’s sunny in pdx! no clouds in the sky… well, other than chemtrails.
