leopard satirizes the blue screen of death

i recently upgraded my mac book pro to the new mac os x leopard from the previous mac os x tiger and the first thing i noticed was how slick the new networking capabilities were. the second thing i noticed was that apple decided to use an old yellowing monitor with the blue screen of death appearing on it for the icon representing that you are connected to a pc. i immediately pulled one of my co-workers aside to show it off even though he didn’t understand nor care.

i used to build pc’s by the dozens and i despised mac’s. but the time came when i decided to switch to the darkside and i have never looked back. i fear the blue screen of death as should everyone and i thought the clever placement of the icon was awesome.

apple pointed out two things

pc’s are ugly
pc’s break

i did a little research and found out that quite a few people are butt hurt over the icon. not all of them could comment because they were busy trying to figure out the error code on their blue screen of death!

yes i know this may not seem like a big deal but i am pumped. i am sure every web designer out there is pumped.

why you may ask?
two reasons:

anything but internet explorer: yes i will judge you if you use this browser. it is the least protected and the least compatible for web design. it has it’s own rules and they suck. i know i may sound like a punk but please get firefox or the new version of safari. DO NOT UPGRADE TO IE7.
safari will run on the new iphone: and this is the reason why everyone will start to use it. the ipod /itunes bundle is what has gotten everyone in their sister thinking twice about macs. soon this will also go for the safari browser. if riff raff suzie has her browser settings a certain way on her new jazzy iphone then why the hell would she go home to her pc and use IE? unless suzie is doped up on smack?!
ecommerce on the iphone: if it works on a safari browser it will work on the iphone. if everyone starts carrying iphones as frequent as ipods then that will mean they can purchase anything they want online as long as they have power.

i remember when i took apart my first hard drive. it was literally my first hard drive from 1997 weighing in at a whopping 1.4gb and it was larger than most modern 500gb drives. it had windows 95 on it but i later upgraded it all the way to the fantasmic 98se. like all hard drives it’s shelf life finally expired and was rendered useless – so i did what any adhd guy would do and i decided to take it apart. at the time i had a loose understanding of how a hard drive worked but once i saw what was inside i was baffled.

if it is difficult for you to wrap your mind around how a phonograph works then this would blow your mind. i say that because i am one of those people. since the drive was toast, i tore all of it’s guts out and the only practical parts i found were these two magnets. which soon made their way to my fridge to hold up heavy things since they were so powerful. killer story i know.

Q: BUT GEE WHIZ MR. DIGGLES HOW DO THEY WORK?

A: well i am glad you asked. HDDs record data by magnetizing a magnetic material in a pattern that represents the data. They read the data back by detecting the magnetization of the material. A typical HDD design consists of a spindle which holds one or more flat circular disks called platters, onto which the data is recorded. The platters are made from a non-magnetic material, usually glass or aluminum, and are coated with a thin layer of magnetic material. Older disks used iron oxide as the magnetic material, but current disks use a cobalt-based alloy. The platters are spun at very high speeds. Information is written to a platter as it rotates past mechanisms called read-and-write heads that fly very close over the magnetic surface. The read-and-write head is used to detect and modify the magnetization of the material immediately under it. There is one head for each magnetic platter surface on the spindle, mounted on a common arm. An actuator arm (or access arm) moves the heads on an arc (roughly radially) across the platters as they spin, allowing each head to access almost the entire surface of the platter as it spins. get it? neither do i.

macbook pro problems

i love my laptop. my friends know i love my laptop. i want to have sex with my laptop. i have a 17″ macbook pro w/ 2 gigs of ram. it is the best machine i have ever owned.

however it recently went a little haywire. . so i sent it back and it is going under the knife. they may have to send me a new one but i don’t really want a new one… for i have shared my hopes and dreams with this machine. we are something special. omg, there was this one time we laughed so hard together…..

yes, i am pathetic. but my machines will make me infamous.

+ this is funny. my business partner will like it because he recently decided to go back to a pc from his new macbook. he is a going to be the suit in the video and i am going to be the guy with the hoody on.

yes bill gates gets a lot of shit. but i have always looked up to him. i mean who would you pick if you were to choose the richest man in the world? how would you expect him or her to act? i think bill gates has done a damn fine job of being the richest dude in history. i love to hear people dog on mr. gates… i agree his operating system sucks but i don’t blame him for that. hell, i could go on for a while but the reason i posted this is because i thought this was a great article. read it if you care about children.

before i was 17 i knew nothing about computers. in fact i was not interested in them in the slightest. when i left for college at spu in 1998 my best friend’s father put one together for me for $200. it was a pentium 133mhz w/ 32mb ram + a 1.44gb hd. his dad was the biggest computer nerd and i always found it fascinating. about two weeks before i left for school i decided to take the entire thing apart to learn how it worked. naturally i fucked it up and i didnâ€™t want to have to bring it back to my buddies dad so i spent those next 2 weeks fixing it. when i showed up to school and they boasted that they were one of the first universities to have a ‘t1′ with ‘pine’ mail. pine was supposed to ba a sophisticated, easy-to-use email program that was created at the university of washington and even though it was badass back in the day it now sucks: much like any software application. since spu had this t1 everyone was required to have a network interface card to access the internet. the central information systems people were charging $30 to install and configure these beauties – excluding the cost of the nic that is. i read the manual and installed my own and stared to help others only to realize is that no one wanted to deal with the hardware. opening up the computer case was not-cool for a noobie so that is where the central information system boys made the scrilla. i enjoyed working on so many different boxes that i started to charge for my services. however, i low-balled the cis dudes by offering a flat fee of $5. it took me about 30 minutes and i figured this was pretty good quick cash for a college student. plus the ladies liked me because i just saved them 25 bucks and i wasn’t a geek staring them up and down… well i least saved them 25 bucks. to make a long story longer i pretty much failed out of my bio-chem major because i was too busy fucking around with computers.

i have been into pc’s until about 18 months ago when i purchased my first mac. it wasn’t long after that i bought my second mac and made a lifelong decision to never promote pc’s again. yes i have a romance with my pc and i still prefer to write music on it. however, the operating system on a mac simply makes more sense. computers have been around long enough for people to have to deal with errors and stupid issues. i tried to load a program on my pc the other day and i got the following error “d3derr_invalidcall”. out of everyone i know i can only think of one person that may be able to understand what that means off the bat. i sure don’t. the point of that is to say that i am in love with the way macâ€™s operate. yes, i admit they may not be perfect for everything but for those that are just trying to be involved more with what is going on with the web then a mac is the only way to go. i will be posting more substantial reasons why i love mac in the near future on this blog. and soon enough i will be doing a vlog on my macbook pro and why i love it as though it were my child.

all that comes down to this link posted below. macâ€™s are taking over. something that at one point in my life i would have frowned upon but now fully support. i only have one sticker on my car and it is the apple logo. it is my way of saying â€œhey i know they cost a little more but save yourself the headaches and get a fucking mac!â€.
