this is fun to watch but kinda goofy. it is all over the web right now so i couldn’t help but jump on the bandwagon.

i use google chrome about 25% of the time and it’s true – it is crazy fast. it does however have some pitfalls but i imagine it will become the leading browser in no time. it is still in “beta” but then again so is gmail. lame.

i am sure if you have used google in the last 24 hours you may have noticed the crop circle banner used on the google home page. a few weeks ago there was another alien theme as well. what makes them both weird is that there is no explanation of why they were there. and google isn’t known for being fun imo.

there have been some speculations on what they are trying to allude but really it seems weird to most.

either way, i am glad they are putting some attention on this stuff. especially crop circles. i know most people think that they are a hoax and that red necks round up their friends to make them at night to impress and freak out the world. but there are thousands of them every year, and some of them are so complex and deep in meaning that even top scientists are impressed.

for example, in this cnn news story they found an ancient stone with a symbol on it that matches the crop circle below. this ancient symbol is said to be the flower of life.

google earth vs reality television

so i just downloaded the new google earth 5.0 and i have been clicking away like a total freak. uh do i want to check out the ocean floor? or do i want to check out the stars? or do i want to check out the physical landscape of olympus mons on fucking mars?!?! seriously?! all i can think about is the bullshit we had in the 3rd grade which was totally a privilege because we had bumps on our globe. now you can see sharks in the ocean and planes in mid flight. if you do not have google earth then download it cause it is friggin free!!!!!

while i was poking around with it i started to ponder reality television and the unbelievable massive audience that fuels it. then i started to think about how many of those people know what color brett michaels eyes are and how few of those people have ever seen the landscape of mars. point being – no one gives a shit about things that are mind blowing. instead people want this:

the point is that i hate everything that reality tv stands for and i wish there were channels on tv that focused on stuff like google earth anomalies. but hell, i guess that is what i have my computer for.

this is going to be a big week for all of us!

when i first saw the new google phone i was kinda let down. i am sure most people were since we are all used to the uber flashy iphone. even cnn did a story on the review of the new phone title google’s htc dream phone — that’s it? – read the review here

now i can’t say anything about the phone’s functionality since i haven’t used one but i can say that the thing is so underwhelming looking it is almost painful. i can see they were trying to go with a minimalist approach but imo it just looks like a cheap piece of plastic. but then again… i have yet to actually touch one.

i didn’t really get all that interested until i decided to check out the android open source project. i watched this video above and was totally into it. i consider myself a nerd but i don’t know half of what these guys are talking about – i was just super into the concept and the fresh perspective. i kept thinking while i was watching the dude with the dangling earring i wonder what that dude is like at a bar drinking a beer? – i would bet he would be a blast to hang with. but that’s just me. plus i have a thing for those excited to give their ideas away.

i wonder if that earring is bluetooth or a device that is communicating to a large spaceship far far away?

i think it is kinda funny since some of the other footers are technically amazing and mine is just a picture of me making a dumb face with a tag cloud floating – which includes favorites like: darsh, fat-kid and freaks.

google unveils a new web browser

it is called chrome and i am not sold.

even though google has a solid reputation for introducing new applications that become a daily use for people all over the world, i am not happy about a new browser.

i will most likely be singing a different tune once i have experience it.

as a web designer, the more browsers available equals the more work you have to put into tweaking your code for compatibility. i just hope google doesn’t get creative. anything but internet exploder i guess.

google street views features portland

this is insane! i swear there are so many things i am starting to think are possible. like me posting on my blog consistently. getting back at it here i swear.

google has released a thing called google street views that allows you to see images from just about any location in a city. they only have it available for about 6 or so cities but guess what? portland is one of them! not sure who pulled it off but a big thank you goes out from nerds like me in the pdx area!

i could sit here and continue to explain this or you can check it out for yourself. it took me back to the first time i discovered google earth. i can’t imagine what it is going to be like when they merge the street view functionality in. holy directions skunk king!!!

in the past when i wanted to find a location on the road i would call 411 and it would cost me some stupid amount of money for the service. and the funny thing is that you can call one call center and they have no idea what you are talking about but if you call back to another call center they have the exact information you are looking for. shady. i got smarter these past few years and i just started to call my friends who are always online. hey ian, can you google the homeless shelter downtown? i am late for my volunteering.

well god bless google. they seem to have unlimited middle fingers. they now have a service where if you call 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone you can search businesses by category. like wallets or db clay makes really neat wallets as an example
