this goes back to 2005 when db clay was deep in the mix. we used to do a lot of shows that required us to take credit cards on site and we used a janky knuckle breaker to capture peoples info. well sometimes when i was lost in the hustle i would accidentally make an impression of the card sans a couple of numbers. so when you would go to enter the credit card into the system you couldn’t because you didn’t have the whole number. garett hated me for this.

well, even though it was my fault in the first place, i took the time to figure out the two missing numbers from this credit card then took it upon myself to create an “employee of the month” poster for the office to bask in my greatness.

to follow this up, tyler made a poster to get garett off the streets for good.

32 years old mr. stenson. 32 years old. do you remember when i dj’ed your 21st birthday party at your parents house in west linn and your neighbors were complaining because the music was too loud. so you came down to the basement and said diggles, can you turn it down a bit and i will go outside and see what the volume is like then we can adjust when i come back so we know what we are working with? and as soon as you would leave the room i would turn it back up?

man i am an asshole. well at least 11 years ago i was.

i have learned more from you than most my friend. you and i went on a ride that seems like a fairytale. but like we always said if this ends tomorrow, it has been one hell of a show and indeed it was.

well done on all of your creativity. and thank you for all the great times at the joffice.

whenever i hear this song i think of you. probably because i have heard you rap it like 100 times. well maybe closer to 6.

for all those always asking me how do i get a wallet? now is your chance. pony up betches.

i love that we are still in like the top 5 results for the phrase designer wallet and still holding the number 1 slot for unique wallets. seo juice never fails.

2 years ago today db clay closed it’s doors.

this is my favorite db clay puzzle wallet (#254 // Batch 1) and the puzzle gallery was by far my favorite campaign we rolled out.

the below video is a photoshoot we did that was over 500 one of a kind wallets shot by steve steckly in one evening.

those were very exciting times. i am glad my stress is less today than it was on this day 2 years ago.

garett stenson sent tyler stenson and i this the other day. i wanted to post it. warm fuzzies.

Look. This is going to come off as some sort of pitiful love letter and I’m sure 4 months after it happened, you’re still getting emails. DB Clay was the first brand I ran into when I got back into any sort of artistic wanderlust. The wallets inspired me in a way few things did and I’ll miss them. I’m afraid to even use my Ms. Frey because it’s some sort of memory of something that’s gone now and I don’t normally get like that. I still carry the Puzzle Wallet wherever I end up. Anyway, if you’re keeping a mailing list of sorts to notify people of when/if you’re ever entering the whole scene (not necessarily wallet, but otherwise, anything really) again, ping me back. Best of luck to you sir, at your current job and any future place the world takes you.

i re-watched this video tonight and the title is all i could think of. if you don’t know about db clay the path of least resistance is an image search (just keep scrolling) – we were a wallet company that redefined the hunk of shit you don’t care about in your pocket. we made our mark.

this post is a tribute to the best business partner i will ever have – mr. garett stenson. today we chatted about the future. he is now the creative director of network redux, a stellar hosting company located in portland, oregon. and while they have already experienced tremendous growth, i know that mr. stenson will be a perfect fit for exploiting their killer qualities.

i saw this a while ago and it made me laugh. it actually fooled me at first. could you imagine if a spider was like the size of a tractor? that would be the scariest thing ever. or a scorpion? there was a story recently floating around about a spider eating a bird – and yes, if you click the link there is a picture.

i have always loved bugs.

speaking of which, this weekend garett and i moved the final push of db clay stuff out of the warehouse. now i can’t use my right arm. oh yeah… and i bought a new suit at rays ragtime on saturday. and damn i look good in it. i will post a picture as soon as glamor shots is done with the processing.

sorry i haven’t been posting much lately. been hustling to get this site polished and done.

it is official, db clay is no longer selling wallets. i know i may have talked about this a tad much lately but it has been the center of my universe for the last half a decade.

we sold pretty much every wallet + we had in a frenzy towards the end. here is a video of us filling web orders in our dilapidated ship center. it took 4 of us over 2 hours to fill one days worth of orders. so if you are someone who ordered a wallet – thank you. enjoy it.

i also thought i would throw some random pictures from the last few years. we have over 20 thousand pictures (literally) so i can’t promise that these are the best. but i can promise these are random. zoinks!

db clay was a company where everything mattered + nothing mattered. none of us cared about the fashion scene, the art scene, or any scene for that matter. we simply got used to the mentality of why not. we realized that nothing is cool – which in turn made everything cool. garett had this innate ability to take roadkill and make it appealing. tyler would start yelling things from afar which ended up becoming product names – i’m going on a stampage! hiya!!!. brandon dressed up a toby keith last year and performed an abortion in our bathroom (well not really, but kinda). courtney randomly scanned a flower one day and it ended up becoming one of our best selling wallets. brian put together the worst china book report known to man and we still call him a darsh. alex would paint wallets as well as everything else that was in his reach- no more white bitch!

we had a transparent business model – garett handed out balanced sheets to the entire team at our monday morning meetings. every idea was considered. we had show and tell and we clapped after everyone shared what their plans were for the week. mondays we played 80′s music. tuesdays was radio paradise. wednesdays was down tempo. thursdays was ravetrax (phat beats!!!1). fridays was 80′s. *always pad the weekend with the 80′s.

oh yeah, most importantly… we threw the best parties. because much like our work environment – you could come as you are.

our last bash is halloween:

this is far from the end. i am sure i will bust out nostalgia every so often. thank you to everyone who encouraged us and was supportive. we were always shocked how much people were into our company.

pray for our economy and our next president.
