I am the web director + co-founder of db clay. I am 28, happily married + living in Portland, Oregon. I don't have many reasons for keeping this blog. I tend to talk about emerging web culture + how ridiculous the media is but the majority of this site consists of stuff that makes me smile. find archives here

I fear neckties + 2012 + I have mild OCD but I will always post, so please come back or subscribe to my rss feed. Feel free to leave a comment + not be an asshole. Relax, none of this means a thing. You can check out my portfolio here.

About Me

online music: the best use of your broadband

Posted: November 13, 2006

two things happened to me in 1999.

  • 1. i discovered online music
  • 2. i quit buying music
  • online music is the best use of you bandwidth bar none. you can find your favorite style of music streaming 24 hours a day with no commercials at cd quality. oh yeah and it’s free. there are wonderful people in this world that love music so much that they are willing to host these sites and give away this music for free. it is streaming so it isn’t considered downloading. you are just listening to what ever they decide to put on. i have gone through so many phases of music by listening to online music and i can honestly say that it all has come down to one station. of course i will probably say something different in a couple of years but i truly can say that this station will be my favorite for a while at least. it is called net musique and it is really good shit. just go to the site and click on listen and your in. if you want a list of other really cool online music stations then go to shoutcast.com. however, if you have a mac or use itunes then there is a section on your left side bar that says radio. if you click on this then you can browse through your favorite genre of music and select a station. some of them have lower bandwidth station if you are running on a slower connection. if you have broadband then i would go for the 128kbs or better stations. there are ways to record the music as well if you are dedicated enough. There is this program called ripcast that will allow you to record streaming music as easily as a couple of clicks. i have used it and it is worth the 15 bucks or whatever it costs. while recording not only does it record directly in mp3 format but it names and separates the track. so if you start it when you leave for work by the time you come home you have a collection of songs you would have never known how to find. rad ass.

other stations I would personally highly recommend:

  • radio paradise: eclectic rock stuff
  • frisky radio: progressive house
  • ravetrax: classic rave + dance tracks
  • enjoy!

[...] i am a fan of online radio. if you have broadband and are tired of listening to your creed albums over and over then you need to check it out. [...]
