when i saw this i realized that i should take the idea of exploring a new profession a little more seriously. i have mentioned to a few people that the biggest threat to my job security is that the internet would be turned off. and everyone has called me a fool. dude, the internet will never be turned off – ahem, i beg to differ. we have grown used to connectivity much like we have grown used to electricity – and a strong enough gust of wind can shut your power down in no time. my point: shit is volatile and we know nothing about how it is all bound together. we just think we do.

US President Barack Obama would be granted powers to seize control of and even shut down the internet under a new bill that describes the global internet as a US “national asset”.

the proposal (that i would bet my left testicle will go through) states that in case of a national threat the president can turn the web off. globally. i can guarantee you that this proposal would not have been submitted if there was not an instance already in someones mind that will take place giving them the go ahead to pull the cord. laying the ground work. – you can download the proposal here
