though this video is macabre i found it very interesting and well done.

here is the synopsis:

The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.

i can’t imagine how scary that forest must be at night.

yup it’s that time of year. and once again i have been fortunate enough to be a web visionary awards finalist for two projects i did this last year.

this award really belongs to the group that goes by the name compelled since it really is their project and their idea. i just helped bring it to life.

i love this so hard. don’t get me wrong, i think zuckerberg is a doucher just as much as the next guy but i love the fact he sticks to his roots and wears whatever the hell he wants.

the fat fucks out at wall street think that since he isn’t wearing a suit that it is a sign of immaturity and that he isn’t fit to be a ceo. oh you mean the guy who created a new digital economy worth billions isn’t fit to lead the charge because he doesn’t dress like a stiff? and are we quick to forget how fucked up our economy is because of the suit wearing boners on wall street?

this is a topic that is very dear to me because i am not a huge fan of wearing a suit. while it is a sign of professionalism, i don’t feel comfortable in one – especially with a tie. so if a person is expected to perform at some level wouldn’t you want them to be as comfortable as possible in order to achieve the highest results? for some people this is in a suit and i can respect that. but not for mark and not for me.

jenny and i have been eating paleo for a little over a month now. to be honest i always found it slightly annoying when someone would talk about being paleo – mostly because i didn’t know what it meant and i equated it to someone boasting about being vegan or vegetarian. like gfy already.

i have no food allergies and i have been blessed with an iron stomach. i can pretty much eat a pile of hot garbage and feel fine. also, i don’t have weight problems. so the idea of changing my diet wasn’t all that appealing since i didn’t feel it was going to make any impact. well when the topic of paleo originally came up i thought of jason glaspey – a talented dude from portland, oregon that parted ways with urban airship to pursue his passion for paleo. jenny and i looked up his website called paleo plan and decided to buy the get started guide. after reading this document i can honestly say my diet will never be the same.

so wtf is paleo? i’ll refer to wikipedia for this since i don’t want to try to explain it in my own words:

The paleolithic diet (abbreviated paleo diet or paleodiet), also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a modern nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various hominid species habitually consumed during the Paleolithic era—a period of about 2.5 million years duration that ended around 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture. In common usage, such terms as the “Paleolithic diet” also refer to the actual ancestral human diet.

essentially – no sugar, no dairy and no wheat. this handy chart below provided by fit bomb shows how the food pyramid should be.

over the last month jenny and i have found that changing to this diet is actually fairly easy but we do spend a lot of time in the kitchen. we are pretty strict with it throughout the week but we do give ourselves 1 free day or cheat day each week. this usually is where i take advantage of drinking beer and eating copious amounts of tortilla chips (which is what i miss the most). i used to eat a lot of candy like M&M’s and now i no longer crave them. even on my cheat days i stay away from sugar.

one thing that really has helped us out is getting a vitamix blender. we fucking blend all sorts of shit. it’s awesome. not a cheap machine but worth every penny if you use it a lot.

so despite this blog post i am not going to be on a high horse about how superior my eating habits are. but i will end with this – if you are tired of feeling like shit or looking to lose weight and have more energy etc. then you should give this a try. now that i am aware of how bad certain food groups are for us i will never go back. i have been stuffing my face with red meat and vegetables this last month and i am at 9% body fat and i feel like a warrior. we have been taught a lie in school about how we should eat. the food pyramid is a total load of horse ass. not a shocker that america is a fat country.

look into it and consider trying paleo. your body with thank you.
