amazing space shuttle launch

March 20, 2012

this is a must watch. nasa recently released this video of a full space launch. it makes me jealous that kids have access to this sort of content in school these days. when i was 10, if you wanted to know anything about a space launch you had to read it in a dated encyclopedia britannica.

i scoped this on io9 – you can read the story about the launch here.

fight for your right – remix

March 19, 2012

holy bust a gut! this is amazing. my buddy channing sent me this and i almost shit my pants. it is so awesome to see will ferrell and john c reilly together again after watching step brothers like 200 times.

the best part was when john c reilly started peeing on elijah wood. tite.

it’s pretty much a short film – so if you have 30 minutes laying around, use it on this.

microsoft satarizes past versions of IE

March 16, 2012

so let me get this straight – MSFT has deployed a campaign that is poking fun at the fact it’s past browsers have sucked total donkey balls? the number 38 ranked fortune 500 company that has more cash flow than the federal reserve is touting that it has finally come up with a browser that doesn’t make you want to kill yourself? gotta hand it to you MSFT – you got balls.

since the launch of firefox, which set a holding record of over a million downloads on launch day, internet exploder usage has dropped faster than a hot rock in cold water. it currently is in a far third place with chrome quickly rising to soon being the #1 browser of choice:

Browser Stats

over half of those using IE are on version 8 which isn’t terrible considering how bad 7 & 6 were:

Browser Stats

i personally find the campaign to be a step in the right direction but let’s get real – a video of some kid making jokes with a cat isn’t going to cut it. i want an apology – no jokes or puns but a straight faced “we’re sorry.”

the amount of money companies have spent paying developers to tweak, hack and strong arm their lack luster browser into performing properly is astounding. on top of this i truly feel that IE has stunted the growth of the web. anything emerging seems to fail in IE or need some extreme workaround.

i have started to boycott all versions of IE on a lot of my personal projects because i just simply don’t want to deal with it anymore and i encourage my developer friends to do the same. a good plugin for wordpress is ie warning which if you have some code chops you can adjust it to display just about anything when someone visits your site with IE.

Internet Exploder

so yeah, fuck you IE – you have frustrated me to a point that even if you created the best browser on the planet i will never support or promote you. i am jaded and i am hardly alone…

breaking down a news story 101

March 15, 2012

brilliant… back when garett and i used to live together, one of our favorite past times was picking apart news anchors and their antics while watching local news. tons o fun.

the news honestly makes me feel like i am being treated as an idiot. this video above highlights that no matter wtf they are reporting on, if they use the same formula they can make anything seem important.

garett introduced me to this show and i am glad he did. if you haven’t seen it, you should check it out. the first of the two seasons is available on-demand on netflix. give it a whirl – it’s really mature.
