Benjamin Cavanagh Diggles

I am a Channel Sales Manager at Webtrends. I am 30, happily married + living in Portland, Oregon. I don't have many reasons for keeping this blog. I tend to talk about emerging web culture + how ridiculous the media is but the majority of this site consists of stuff that makes me smile. find archives here

I am dedicated to shedding the fear of all the things included in the system of control. Know that I will always post, so please come back or subscribe to my rss feed. Feel free to leave a comment + not be an asshole. Relax, none of this means a thing.
If you want to contact me, leave a comment + I may or may not get back to you. It is what it is. Oh yeah, I am not a copywriter so please excuse mispellsings.

About Me

3 firsts and 1 repeat

Posted: August 25, 2009

i drifted across this long list of first things related to web and i grabbed a few gems.

First Image Ever

the image above was the first ever rendered image on the web. at least that is what i have been told. and i am not surprised. if i was on a game show and the question of the night was what was the first image on the internets? – my answer without even knowing would be uh, a group of chicks…?

while it is not a very intense first picture it still upholds a certain level of internet weirdness. it is without a doubt an inside joke that probably made the person soo happy when they saw it appear on screen. gotcha?

fast forward about a decade and you have the first youtube video ever posted. which is also delightfully underwhelming. however this did set the stage for the bulk of youtube videos currently floating around. hey i’m at the zoo ‘n shit! – post, share.

i remember when i saw my first video message that a guy had sent to a friend to catch up instead of an email. i remember thinking damn this is going to catch on like wild fire and i was dead wrong. the moment that camera comes on it is like kryptonite to any persons comfort zone. so me sending a video of myself telling my buddies how life is going is creepy.

First Banner Ad Ever

above is the first banner ad ever. and i have to be honest… i want to click it. now they have banner ads that will take over your screen and shoot rockets at you. the other day i swear to god a ford mustang drove out of my screen into the other room all from a hyper active banner ad. i wonder if banner ads will always be around like spam? i mean we all hate them and it make us crazy but apparently enough assholes out there are clicking on them enough to keep them around. spam still perplexes me to this day.

the swine flu scare is not the first. i was walking to work the other day and i saw a guy reading the oregonian through the news box and the headline said something like half the world will be infected by the swine flu!!!!

i call bullshit. while i am tempted to go into why i think the swine flu is an excuse for potential martial law and border control i must refrain. my only advice is to hold your horses before they start testing vaccinations on your kids and grandmas.

see! 2 posts in 2 days! i promise i am back!

So glad you’re back, I find a lot of interesting shit on the web, but this was always my main source.

Haha, actually my alien friend has a probe in your body and he picked up a transmission that you were going to post about that and told me, so I posted it first so I can look cooler than Mr. Diggles. Or something like that…
