I am the web director + co-founder of db clay. I am 28, happily married + living in Portland, Oregon. I don't have many reasons for keeping this blog. I tend to talk about emerging web culture + how ridiculous the media is but the majority of this site consists of stuff that makes me smile. find archives here

Dammasch State Hospital

i forgot to mention this site. it was (re)launched about 2 months ago.

the description: Dammasch State Hospital was a mental hospital, asylum, and educational center located in Wilsonville, Oregon, United States. It opened in 1961 and closed in 1995. [ check out the site here ]

dammasch is a great story. to a small group of us on one fateful night, we all had a personal change from this very building. some of us more than others but i can assure you that anyone that has been inside can say that it is a surreal place for many reasons.

this website is a tribute to the building. we are trying to collect as much content as we can from people and place it here for others to enjoy. my friend graeme took a bunch of great images that you can see on the site. we are also working on collecting stories and videos. pretty straight forward. i know there is a ton of cool shit we can put on this site so i am encouraging anyone that has any content to submit it.

and while i am shamelessly self promoting my work…

my friend julian and i had plans to do a documentary on the hospital so we had this idea to invite local psychics to come out and investigate the building as a chapter of the documentary. well, unexpectedly like 50 local psychics showed up to this invite and we walked around this building all day with them as each of them practiced their unique way of communicating. we saw it all. and honestly, some of it was pretty exiting… but some of it was also straight up dork-o-rama.

a n y w a y, this dude and his mother happened to go out to dammasch the night before this meeting happened (so essentially the night before the psychic chapter).

the dude had on a recorder to record disembodied voices but he had it so cranked up that you could hear everything from neighborhood garbage trucks to airplanes flying above.

Dammasch Hallway

one year later… julian gets an email from this guy saying yo, mom my and i went to dammasch the night before and… proceeded to tell the story above. then offered the audio in donation for the sake of the project. so julian sent me the audio and i decided to turn it into a song. i love it - click below and check it out. this shit is wild.

you can find more of my music at mano-destra.com

i would cut off one of my butterfingers to get back into that place.

do you find it strange that some strange posts got through on your site for the dammasch posting? coincidence? regardless, the whole dammasch hospital reminds me of MTV’s fear show (i think that was the title back in like 2002 or 2003) that I used to watch with you in the basement at juniper street. it looks like they are reviving shows like that with new ghost shows and their seemingly staged ‘location exorcisms’.

hair standing up on the back of your neck is a very weird bodily reaction and sensation, isn’t it? it happened to me on the street here in San Antonio the other day, when a very turbulent, angry bum with black face paint and a shredded tweed business suit almost attacked me out right during lunch on the street.

I like the song/sound bytes. You are one creative guy… It’s almost wrong.

I’m not surprised that there was crazy stuff going on with the psychics. Mental hospitals seems to be a hotbed for weird spiritual stuff. Every person I’ve known who’s worked in a psych ward has said you see stuff you’d never imagine there.

Why is it that you all got to be there?

it is a long story i am planning on adding my version of it to the site in the next few months. i am sure i will post it here too. as well as a darsh joke.

I fixed my site! Hooray! All I had to do is repair a couple of my database tables. Thank you David Frey for helping me troubleshoot. 4 days ago

+ Some Random Images +

This is a bunch of random images. I have plans for this box to feature certain topics later on. The first being abandoned buildings.

For now, it is a string of older pics.
