apple refurbishes iphones - or not
Posted: September 5, 2007
now i just read this article about 5 minutes ago and this is simply my initial take. i would put money down that this is what apple did: they put a ton of effort into a very forward thinking product and they didn’t know what the sales were going to look like. since they built such an efficient model they can now use the same hardware for 2 separate products. if the sales are down on iphones but up on the new ipods - then program them to be ipods.
that is one possibility. another however: they produced waaaay too many iphones thinking they were going to sell to everyone who had an ipod - so they slash the prices to move volume and program stock to be iphones.
both good ideas? or am i high?

update:

i went to the apple website and realized they are slightly different casings. which pretty much slaughters both my ideas. looks like i am the latter. but.. it is a little peculiar that they have an 8gb model.
